“Madrigals and Monteverdi”
Experience the passionate world of the madrigal, from its origins popular song of the sixteenth-century through to the operatic music of its ultimate exponent, Claudio Monteverdi.
Ballarat-based vocal ensemble VOX take you on a journey of discovery which starts with a dramatic song which evokes the drama of a Renaissance and a ‘Top-40’ Italian love song, a series of songs about the dying swan and passionate explorations of love from both Italy and England. The concert culminates in the tragic brilliance of Lamento d’Arianna, from an opera Monteverdi wrote written for the Gonzaga court in Mantua in 1608.
